The BioBanking or Biodiversity Banking and Offsets Scheme was launched by the NSW Government in 2008. The goal at the time was to provide a transparent, consistent and robust framework to balance development needs with biodiversity conservation.
The scheme was designed to create opportunities for permanent conservation and investment in biodiversity on private land. Our presentation will provide an insight into the history of BioBanking, the changes to the scheme over the last eight years and the proposed changes under the current NSW Biodiversity Reforms.
We will also look at what has worked and what hasn’t in terms of biodiversity conservation. Liam Hogg and Ariane Weiss are both certified BioBanking assessors and Ariane has been involved in the scheme since its inception.
