As the environmental recruitment sector gets tough, the EIANZ explores how to add value to your role and generate business opportunities by embedding environmental and sustainability principals across the business. Good connections and continuing to learn new ways of doing things can be a huge personal asset in the job market. You and your employer may benefit by finding opportunities outside the regular circles leading to business and personal opportunities outside the environment sector.
Most people will hold jobs with a variety of employers and move across different employment sectors through their working life. We all need to be flexible in our working patterns and be prepared to change jobs and/or sectors if we believe there are better opportunities available or more suited to our skills and interests elsewhere. Not only do we need to look outside the proverbial box but we may need to find another one to get into.
In order to be flexible we need a set of transferable skills and a knack for finding the right opportunities. We all have skills that are not specific to one particular career path but are generic across all employment sectors. Environmental practitioners can sharpen those skills, take inspiration from professionals who do make the change and switch industries and understand how to make the most out of your key drivers, inner strength and find your passion. All this doesn’t mean turning your back on environmental ethics and interest, nor should it shut the door on that industry for ever.
This forum aims to provide inside knowledge from those who have changed career sectors, and provide advice and guidance on a range of topics from experienced professionals in career transitions and career transition specialists.
