Monday 27 November – Wednesday 29 November 2023
Te Pae Christchurch Convention Centre, 180 Oxford Tce, Christchurch, NZ
The 2023 Australasian Network for Ecology and Transportation (ANET) Conference will explore the theme: Resilience, recovery and restoration: transport ecology in a changing world.
To be held in the Christchurch Conference Centre in November 2023, ANET is the premier event for ecologists, transport planners, regulators, construction and operation professionals, and the local community to engage on the interactions between transportation and ecology. The conference will include two days of technical presentations, posters, panels, workshops and trade displays, a one-day field trip to Kaikoura and a networking social event. This is an all inclusive cost charged in AUD.
Kaikoura Field trip | In November 2016, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake occurred 15 kilometres off New Zealand’s north Canterbury coast. Kaikoura, with diverse ecosystems rich in indigenous biodiversity, was severely impacted. The level of damage to the road and rail network in the region was unprecedented in New Zealand. The scale of the event and need for quick restoration balanced with minimising the impact on the environment, wildlife and landscape created a great challenge for the recovery project. This is a must do field trip included with your conference fees.

Did you miss the deadline to submit an abstract for a poster at ANET 2023? Are you giving a spoken paper at ANET 2023 but also want to share the outcomes of a different project, research results or lessons learnt with a case study? Great news – we have space in the poster and trade display venue for more posters and you are invited to submit an abstract for posters only! Submit your abstract without delay before the Wednesday 1 November 2023.
Healthy and resilient ecosystems also play a vital role in disaster risk reduction and natural (or ‘green’) infrastructure can help provide communities and nature with resilience to these hazards. Conversely, poorly located and designed transport infrastructure can exacerbate ecological consequences and cost billions to repair or rebuild following natural disasters. The transport infrastructure we plan, design and build today must both support and promote resilient and functioning ecosystems, and ensure that it can withstand and recover from future shocks. ANET and the Environment Institute of Australia and New Zealand invites professionals, academics and students to submit abstracts for ANET 2023.
If you are interested in submitting a poster please prepare a brief abstract and submit it via the link below by Wednesday 1 November 2023.
Abstracts and biographies may undergo editing before being published in conference materials and on the EIANZ website.
