Queensland boasts one of the highest uptakes of rooftop solar photovoltaic systems in the world, but had previously lagged in terms of attracting utility scale solar developments. That is now changing and Queensland is attracting a multitude of large-scale solar developments from 20 megawatt installations to the huge 2 gigawatt project at Bulli Creek south-west of Toowoomba. Recently, the Queensland Government’s Renewable Energy Expert Panel suggested that there are credible pathways to achieving 50% of power from renewable sources by 2030 and large-scale solar projects will be integral to this transition.
This seminar will explore the challenges of planning, constructing and operating large-scale solar projects and presents opportunities for minimising risks and the environmental and social impacts from such projects.
This session represents an opportunity to enhance your knowledge about solar farms and increase your awareness of key social and environmental issues associated with this type of renewable energy infrastructure.
Speakers will include:
Craig Froome
Principal Consultant, Energetic Effects
Andrew Murdoch
Renewable Energy Project Director, Adani
Pinatas, feeding frenzies and the price of shovels during a gold rush – some observations on the development of large scale solar farms
Graham King
Group Manager - Business Development, Quanta Services Australia
The switch to solar construction
