The SA Division of EIANZ is delighted to present Hugh Possingham and Tanya Schneyder as our guest speakers, at our event to celebrate Biodiversity Month.

Hugh and Tanya will offer attendees a South Australian perspective on current efforts toward achieving nature-positive outcomes, provide an update on the Significant Environment Benefit Fund, and discuss upcoming grant opportunities.

A great chance to network with like-minded environmental colleagues and internationally respected speakers! Drinks and nibbles will be provided!

Meet the Speakers

Hugh Possingham | University of Queensland

Dedicated to conserving biodiversity - eg Great Barrier Reef marine rezoning, Marxan, Brigalow declaration, long paddock statement, decision-making tools, project prioritisation and decision science for conservation. Vice-President BirdLife Australia.
40% Professor of mathematics and conservation science at UQ with >760 refereed research papers, 95 fabulous PhD students supervised, Google Scholar
h-index of 166, has led >$80 million in successful competitive grants.

Tanya Schneyder | SA DEW Native Vegetation Branch

Tanya has been coordinating SEB and Heritage Agreement programs within the Native Vegetation Branch, DEW for four years.

Prior to joining the NV Branch she worked in the Water Infrastructure Operations Branch, DEW where she wrote a successful business case securing >$10 million from the Commonwealth to improve waterbird habitat around the Lower Lakes.

A significant portion of her career was spent with Department for Infrastructure and Transport as a vegetation specialist and environmental advisor. Highlights from this role include travelling the state conducting vegetation assessments and assisting the development of the Torrens Island Quarantine Station Management Plan. In her private time she like exploring nature while trail running, kayaking, mountain biking and dabbling in triathlons.
