In recognition of National Recycling Week, the EIANZ SA Division is facilitating a tour of the IWS Recycling Centre at Wingfield, and Dublin Eco Hub.
IWS Recycling Centre - The Wingfield site is home to our transfer station and recycling centre, which services a variety of customers, including councils, businesses and residents.
At the Dublin Eco Hub they recover as many recyclables as possible, with only the remaining waste going into our engineered landfill.
Research and development also takes place here, with the University of SA undertaking a research project on the optimisation of photocopying technology using engineered growth media and selected native plant species. The rehabilitation and maintenance of flora onsite is supported by Red Centre Enterprises, who propagate native plants at their onsite native nursery. They work closely with The Adelaide International Bird Sanctuary National Park and collaborate on projects.
IWS fenced off an area nearly 25 years ago for conservation purposes. This area contains old growth mallees with intact native shrub understory, providing important bird habitat.
Attendees will learn about how IWS is committed to protecting this area and to support it when rehabilitating the Dublin Eco Hub. The site is also home to the Living Earth composting facility where organics received from the Green Bin is processed into a high quality compost. Through innovation practices and strategic partnerships, we have successfully converted what was once considered a Landfill into a Eco Hub.
Delegates are to meet at the Costco carpark, 404-406 Churchill Road, Kilbern (this is immediately north of Costco Fuel). There will be an IWS mini-bus waiting from 9:45am, rather than having everyone drive their own cars in. The bus will depart at 10:00am sharp. The contact person for the day will be Sally O'Niell - 0429 345 010.
Morning tea will be provided for delegates. Numbers are strictly limited, so book early to avoid disappointment!
