About the role

We currently seeking applications for a Senior Ecologist on a full time (preferably) or part time basis. 

This role would be suited to an existing senior-level ecologist or a mid-career professional who is looking for the opportunity to take a step up to the next level and progress their career.

The role can be based in either our Toowoomba or Brisbane offices and would include a mix of field and office-based work. 

The role will require the successful applicant to:

  • Conduct and lead ecological assessments (flora and fauna surveys, including mapping vegetation communities and identifying rare and threatened species) and prepare concise reports with scientific and evidence-based recommendations in accordance with relevant environmental planning instruments and statutory guidelines (Local, State and Federal).
  • Have a strong working knowledge of Queensland’s regulatory frameworks and relevant Commonwealth legislation, with experience in other states highly regarded.
  • Provide specialist environmental advice associated with development assessment, pre-lodgement enquiries & regulatory compliance.
  • Lead projects to meet client deadlines and delegate tasks and ensure those tasks are completed to a high standard.
  • Mentor early career professionals and help them become consistent in their delivery output, improving in efficiencies and technical skill as time goes on.
  • Be fit and able to undertake field work in remote locations.
  • Undertake with confidence and independence, and mentor others, in daily project management tasks from conception through to completion including quoting, time tracking, billing, and client correspondence.
  • Foster existing client relationships and establish new clients and strengthen these relationships with first class service.

Skills and experience

The successful applicant will require the following:

  • A degree in environmental science, science, natural resources or a related discipline.  
  • Demonstrated technical skills and experience commensurate with the role.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to liaise with clients, regulators, staff, contractors and sub consultants.
  • Excellent written communication skills, a high level of attention to detail and strong analytical and data interpretation skills.
  • Be able to work as part of a team and contribute ideas and innovative approaches to project challenges.
  • A current Australian driver's licence is mandatory.
