John Merrell is a Certified Environmental Practitioner - Impact Assessment specialist and NSW REAP with over 26 years’ experience delivering environmental projects across Australia. He is an Executive Manager at Umwelt and the first staff member to be appointed to the company’s Board of Directors.

John’s expertise and governance skills allow him to lead a large team of environmental professionals, including planning, environmental and heritage experts, in the delivery of some of the country’s largest and most complex development proposals. His integrity, humility and professionalism are highly regarded amongst his peers and within regulatory agencies, making him a trusted practitioner and advisor. As a senior leadership figure, John prides himself on fostering the next generation of environmental practitioners, supporting undergraduate programs and mentoring staff throughout their careers both at Umwelt and in other roles.
