Di Buchan FEIANZ CEnvP, EIANZ Vice President - New Zealand, is the 2017 recipient of the Simon Molesworth Award. The Simon Molesworth Award recognises outstanding service to the Institute at an Institute-level and is the Institute's highest honour. The Award is named in honour of Professor Simon Molesworth AO QC, one of our founding members and President from 1995 to 2005.
The Award was presented by Professor Molesworth at the Gala Dinner during our annual conference in Wellington.
For Di, it was a complete surprise. “To be so honoured by your peers is a very overwhelming and humbling experience,” she said.

Di has served for the past four years as Vice President - New Zealand and last month was elected for a further two year term. She also chairs the Human Resource Board sub-committee.
Di has been a member of EIANZ for ten years and during that time has worked tirelessly to promote the Institute throughout New Zealand and beyond. She is a Certified Environmental Practitioner (CEnvP) and works closely with the CEnvP scheme to promote certification to people working in the environment sector.
Di says, “I strongly believe that with so many issues threatening our environment we need to make every effort to reduce the risk of bad decisions. One way to achieve this is to ensure that those who are providing advice and developing environmental policies are both certified in terms of competence and held accountable for their ethical practice. This is exactly what EIANZ membership and CEnvP certification provide – credibility for practitioners and assurance for employers and the public at large.”
We acknowledge and value the rights and interests of Indigenous Peoples in the protection and management of environmental values through their involvement in decisions and processes, and the application of traditional Indigenous knowledge.
