Scoping – determining the matters that must be addressed in an environmental assessment and the extent to which they need to be addressed – is arguably the most important step in impact assessment but is often done poorly.
The EIANZ Impact Assessment Special Interest Section is developing ‘good practice’ guidelines to encourage a more consistent and effective approach to scoping. We are particularly interested in scoping as part of a formal environmental assessment process, but also recognise that scoping is critical to the effective conduct of any environmental investigation.
To assist us in identifying what represents good practice in scoping, the Special Interest Section is seeking input from interested professionals.

The survey will remain active until 15 December 2015. Comments on the draft paper are also sought by that date.
