EIANZ Qualifications Accreditation Scheme | Membership of Visiting Panels Expressions of Interest

Published 19 November 2020

Expressions of interest are invited from Full and Fellow Members of the Victorian Division and New Zealand Chapter to be included on a list from which the Qualification Accreditation Scheme (QAS) Board will invite environmental practitioners to be part of the Visiting Panels that assess qualifications for accreditation by the EIANZ.

The Institute has established the QAS to encourage the recognition of a diverse range of quality programs/courses in environmental science and environmental management that prepare students for careers in the environment profession. Details of the QAS can be found here.

A Visiting Panel consists of three persons led by a senior academic who chairs the panel.  The Panel visits the university, interviews staff and students, inspects teaching, laboratory and field facilities and reports to the QAS Board as to whether the qualifications ought to be accredited in accordance with the criteria set out in the QAS Manual.

Once appointed by the QAS Board, the arrangements for Visiting Panels are made by the university and may involve travel and overnight stays. The time involved is likely to be 2-3 days for the actual visit and some collaboration electronically after the visit to finalise a report to the QAS Board.

The QAS Board makes a small honorarium payment in recognition of the contribution made to the profession.

There are current opportunities to be on a Visiting Panel for the following qualifications:

  • RMIT University Bachelor of Environment and Society degree.
  • University of Canterbury Bachelor of Environment Science degree.

To express interest in the opportunity to be on a roster of Visiting Panel members, please forward a brief covering letter stating why you are interested and your current CV/professional profile. If you have any questions please call Jon Womersley, Chair, QAS Board on 0457 509 201.

Expressions of interest should reach qas@eianz.org by close of business on 23 November 2020.
