EIANZ President, Bryan Jenkins, EIANZ SIS (Impact Assessment) Chair Lachie Wilkinson, Jon Womersley and others recently attended the International Association of Impact Assessment 2018 Conference in Durban, South Africa.
Of note, was the impressive opening statements from The Hon Albie Sachs of the South African Constitutional Court. The powerful session address was on the subject of "Do you have to be white to be green?". In just over twenty minutes he encapsulated one of the critical messages for the world about the importance of the environment to social justice and the survival of the human species.
Looking forward, next year's conference, the IAIA19 Conference, will be held in Brisbane from the 29 April to 2 May 2019. EIANZ is proud to be the in-country host for the conference and will keep members up-to-date as more details are released.
We acknowledge and value the rights and interests of Indigenous Peoples in the protection and management of environmental values through their involvement in decisions and processes, and the application of traditional Indigenous knowledge.
