Carel van der Westhuizen, CEnvP SCPrincipal Hydrogeologist and Contaminated Land Specialist | Pendragon Environmental Solutions Qualifications | MSc (Hydrogeology), CEnvP Site Contamination Specialist, AfilIEAust, MAIG, PrSci |
What do you do?
Groundwater and contaminated land investigations and assessments for land development, mining and industry.
Best aspect of your work?
The mixture of office and outside work.
How did you get there?
Sheer hard work with ongoing professional development.
Biggest environmental concern?
Degradation of Soil (and Water): overgrazing, current agricultural practices, erosion, compaction, exposure to pollutants, land-use conversion, etc. Since sustainable food and water resources depends on quality soils we will likely master this challenge; however, whether this will be equitable to all around the globe remains unanswered.
How and why did you get involved in the EIANZ?
I was required by EPA QLD to be a member of a professional organisation to undertake site assessments (to ensure compliance with a Code of Conduct/Ethics and CPD).
We acknowledge and value the rights and interests of Indigenous Peoples in the protection and management of environmental values through their involvement in decisions and processes, and the application of traditional Indigenous knowledge.
