Following the successful trial of reduced membership fees for student members in New Zealand, the Board is pleased to announce that a flat student fee of $40 will apply across the Institute from 1 July 2019. In addition to the fact that student members pay no application fees, this is a great opportunity for students to join the Institute early at a very affordable price so that they can begin to experience the benefits of membership and being a part of their professional community.
For other categories of membership, the Board has agreed to modest increases in membership fees, to ensure that there is sufficient capacity for investment in Institute activities and to cover for CPI increases in operating costs. It is also important to note that the Institute has established several mechanisms for flexibility throughout a practitioner’s career, including reduced payments for retired members and provisions for members that are taking a career break.

The Board is very conscious of ensuring value for money for membership and recognises that services for members must continue to improve. Examples of improved member services that will commence over the next six months are a trial of an ethics hotline and regular webinars. In consultation with the Advisory Council, we have developed a three-year corporate plan, which outlines the priorities for the Institute. This will be circulated to members in the coming months. Accompanying the corporate plan are detailed implementation plans, including a financial strategy.
We acknowledge and value the rights and interests of Indigenous Peoples in the protection and management of environmental values through their involvement in decisions and processes, and the application of traditional Indigenous knowledge.
