Nature Positive Cities Community of Practice

Published 7 November 2024

EIANZ is thrilled to announce the creation of a new Community of Practice!

The Nature Positive Cities Community of Practice (CoP) will now operate within the Ecology Special Interest Section (SIS). Following the success of the 2024 Nature Positive Cities Symposium in Sydney, EIANZ is excited to bring together a group of passionate members dedicated to promoting nature positive initiatives in urban and suburban environments across Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand.

This new CoP will focus on fostering collaboration between a diverse group of professionals, including ecologists, architects, government personnel, and environmental engineers, all working towards integrating nature into urban living and design. The CoP will also aim to incorporate First Nations perspectives and collaborate with other professional and community groups to advance education and action in this vital area.

As the Institute grows, now is a fantastic time to get involved with one of our SISs or CoPs. These groups provide an invaluable opportunity for members to connect with like-minded practitioners and engage in policy advocacy related to their interests. If you’d like to find out more, simply reach out via email to the relevant group’s contact person, listed in their description on our website.

About the new Nature Positive Cities CoP

The Nature Positive Cities CoP is committed to advancing global Nature Positive initiatives tailored to Australasia’s unique urban and suburban contexts. By sharing high-quality research and best practices, the CoP aims to create environments where nature thrives alongside urban development.

The group will organise professional development opportunities, such as webinars and events, and will collaborate on shaping environmental laws, policies, and guidelines. The Nature Positive Cities CoP is dedicated to building a stronger, more inclusive community that advocates for the better integration of nature in city design, while incorporating Indigenous knowledge into environmental policy and practice.

EIANZ members interested in urban ecology and sustainable city design are encouraged to become involved with the Nature Positive Cities CoP. To express your interest, click on the link below to send us an email.
